Governance

Governance

EMSEA is an international non-profit association (AISBL) based in Belgium. Our governance framework includes dedicated staff, a Legal Board, an Advisory Board, and a General Assembly.

Staff
EMSEA’s operations are led by a Managing Director who oversees all day-to-day activities and funded projects. The team is supported by full-time staff and freelance professionals, many of whom contribute to EU-funded projects aimed at promoting ocean literacy and blue education.

Legal Board
The Legal Board plays an essential role in guiding the management of EMSEA. Comprising committed board members, this body selects a chair to lead the board for a two-year term. The board's oversight ensures that EMSEA stays aligned with its mission and objectives.

Advisory Board
Our Advisory Board is a group of esteemed experts who provide valuable advice and insights. Their guidance supports the strategic direction and impact of our programs and initiatives.

General Assembly
The General Assembly, comprising all Full Members of EMSEA, holds the highest authority within the association. It meets once a year to elect the Legal Board and approving the association’s budget and accounts.
