Evy Copejans
Managing Director
Evy is the Managing Director and one of the cofounders of EMSEA. She leads the operations of EMSEA and is responsible for the EU funded focused on blue education, including the Network of European Blue Schools, BlueLightS, Bridge-BS, the Next Blue Generation Project and others.
With extensive experience as an education consultant, Evy has developed numerous educational projects, events and professional development workshops aimed at bringing ocean literacy into classrooms. Before EMSEA, Evy spent 13 years as a Senior Science Communication Officer at the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) in Ostend, Belgium. Her background in education and coastal tourism laid the foundation for her career. She received the best thesis award for her work, The North Sea, Mare Incognitum. This thesis underscored the minimal inclusion of ocean content in the curriculum and laid the groundwork for the current efforts to implement a blue curriculum.
Evy has co-authored several public outreach and educational publications, including The Science of the Sea – De Wetenschap van de Zee, the first Dutch-language textbook on marine science for teachers.
