Let's meet the Med - Mediterranean Sea Literacy is a project developed by EMSEA Med group members. It was a part of the MIO-ECSDE (Mediterranean Information Office for Environment, Culture and Sustainable Development) call for actions as a part of the celebration of the Mediterranean Action Day 2021.

Main activities were:

  • a series of hands-on educational activities for school students in three Mediterranean countries: Croatia, Italy and Greece.
  • development of the Mediterranean Sea Literacy (MSL) brochure available in 5 languages: English, Italian, Greek, Slovenian and Croatian. This MSL guide consists of seven essential principles and 43 fundamental concepts, all adapted to the specificities of the Mediterranean Sea, which serve as guidance to educators, teachers, scientists, non-governmental organizations, policymakers, the blue business sector, as well as the general public, to raise awareness and help create a Mediterranean-Sea-Literate society. The guide was based on the article of Mokos et al. (2020)*, a 3-year multidisciplinary collaborative process from the researchers and educators of the EMSEA-Med group.
